Make hay while the sun shines…

…that’s what we did in Junior Infants today. We went to the very beautiful Harold’s Cross park to see the signs of summer around us. Today really was a WALK ON WEDNESDAY!

We used our entire walk there and back looking at maths in our environment . We found a wide gate (suitable for Ellie. Room 3 know her!), a narrow gate just us human beings, a very tall and wide tree and a short tree. There were numbers and shapes and patterns everywhere. Too many to list!

Active Week – Day 4

Today we all enjoyed a session in Swan Leisure. Unfortunately, there was no time to snap a few photographs as we were too busy. We played hockey and dodge ball, ran some races and used a giant parachute (don’t worry – all feet were kept firmly on the ground!).

In yard, the children are still recording their progress from earlier in the week.

Tomorrow’s fun includes an obstacle course…stay tuned!

Active Week – Day 2

It was a dance-tastic day today. Our teacher Brian taught us to move and groove and Mrs. Tangney made sure we kept the beat when she got us to “Drop everything and dance” later in the day. More fun tomorrow.

Bike safety

Today we had a special visitor to our school who talked to us about cycling safely. She explained how to check our helmet fits correctly and being safe and seen by using lights and wearing high viz jackets. The boys and girls in junior infants are a very wise lot and knew all the rules to stay safe on their bikes and scooters.

Active Week – A special day

Today we celebrated earning our Active flag and third Green flag with a special assembly.

Our special guest was Ken Doherty. He was very impressed that we are such a fit, active and green school. He told us that when he started to play snooker he had to stand on a biscuit tin as he was too short to reach the table. He also told the children that his mum has put his trophies in the attic as he had too many to dust!

We have lots more active fun to come this week. Stay tuned!

Active Week – Day 1

The rain did not hinder our plans for day 1 of Active Week. The day started off when we all took part in parachute games. We had great fun.

During the day Ms. Mulkerrin played some music over the intercom. It took us all by surprise. We downed pencils and copybooks and took to our feet and danced to the beat of Operation Transformation.

Tomorrow is a very important day in St. Louis Infant School. Thanks to the hard work and participation of all the children and staff, the school has earned an Active flag and Green flag. We’re having an assembly to celebrate and the Irish Champion snooker player  Ken Doherty will be helping us to raise the flags. Stay tuned for an update.
